Inauguration Of Atebubu Community Library
The Atebubu Community Library has been given a major facelift by the North American Atebubu Citizens Association (NAACA), a non-governmental organization dedicated to supporting lifelong learning in Atebubu.
The association has renovated and refurbished the Atebubu Library, breathing new life into the facility and providing residents, especially students, with an enhanced space for learning and research. The once-dilapidated library, plagued by structural defects, outdated furniture, and inadequate resources, has now been given a fresh look thanks to the timely benevolence of NAACA which forms part of its broader initiative to promote education and literacy in Atebubu.
The project included the renovation and painting of the building, the replacement of worn-out tables and chairs, provision of 3 new air conditioners and 40 new desktop computers to aid up-to-minute research and tutoring for students and create a more conducive environment for learning.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the Omanhene of Atebubu Traditional Area, His Royal Majesty Ohempon Dr. Yeboah Asiamah emphasised the importance of such educational facilities to community development. “Education is the bedrock of community development so investing in these areas empowers individuals, strengthens communities, and builds a brighter future for generations to come.”
Ohempon Yeboah Asiamah added, “Access to a well-equipped library is fundamental to academic excellence and lifelong learning so I am urging all students in this area to take advantage of the facility to enhance their learning needs.”
The Bono East Regional Director of the Ghana Library Authority, Charlotte Nsiah, praised NAACA for its remarkable effort in renovating and refurbishing the Atebubu Library by highlighting the critical role such facilities play in fostering education, literacy, and community development, especially in a region with limited access to library services.
“Government resources alone are often insufficient to meet the growing demands of educational development, making contributions from organizations like NAACA essential in creating impactful and sustainable change”, she remarked.
She called on the Atebubu Municipal Assembly to prioritize the maintenance of the refurbished library, stressing that with only three libraries serving the entire Bono East Region, it is crucial to preserve and sustain such a valuable resource.
“A library is more than just a building; it’s a hub for knowledge, growth, and opportunity. We must adopt a proactive maintenance culture to ensure this facility continues to serve generations to come,” she urged.
For his part, Nana Osei Boakye Yiadom, the Canada Atebubuhene and an Executive Member of NAACA reaffirmed the association’s unwavering commitment to fostering development within the Atebubu community.
“We at NAACA firmly believe that education is the key to unlocking opportunities and driving sustainable growth. This library renovation is just one example of our dedication to uplifting communities through strategic interventions”.
